Career Education Scholarships Program

In 2006, the Minister for Education announced two new professional development initiatives for teachers in government schools. The Career Education Scholarships program and the Industry Placements program aim to enhance the capacity of careers coordinators/teachers in government schools to provide quality, up to date and accurate information and assistance to students.

Careers coordinators/teachers in government schools are encouraged to apply for these programs, which will run during 2007 and 2008. Full CRT cover is provided to facilitate teacher release to participate in the programs.

What does the Career Education Scholarship program offer?

Twenty scholarships per year over two years, covering full tuition fees, have been made available for careers coordinators/teachers in government schools to undertake a Graduate Certificate in Career Education in 2007 and 2008.

The Graduate Certificate in Career Education is a one year part-time program designed to develop competencies in career education, development and counselling for teachers or individuals working in the wider community who have responsibility for providing information, guidance and counselling about careers and work related issues. Teachers may apply for either the Career Education Scholarship program or the Industry Placement Program (see separate entry) using the appropriate application form.

How will successful applicants be selected?

Successful applicants will be selected on the basis of written applications, including the statement of support from the Principal of the teacher’s school.
