Career On Track
Career On Track is a pilot careers counselling and guidance service for early school leavers.
The service commenced on July 20, 2009, and will be piloted for 12 months, in the Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Greater Bendigo (DEECD Loddon Mallee Region), Frankston (DEECD Southern Metropolitan Region), Wyndham and Brimbank (DEECD Western Metropolitan Region).
The service is aimed at helping to facilitate re-engagement with education, training or employment as quickly as possible, through appropriate career counselling, guidance and support.
Eligibility
Young people under 19 years of age living in the LGAs above, who have not completed Year 12 or its equivalent, and who are not enrolled in an education or training institution and are not working full time, will qualify for a maximum of six (6) hours of career counselling and guidance provided by qualified careers counsellors in their local area.
Referral Processes
If you have a student living in any of the above LGAs who is leaving school prior to completing Year 12, you can give them information about the Career On Track program, using the brochures distributed to schools. If you have a student’s explicit permission to refer them to Career On Track, you can do so by completing an online referral form on the Youth Central website, or by filling out one of the Career On Track brochures and dropping it in the post (they are postage paid). Please make sure you keep a note of this in your diary for future reference.
The young person’s contact details will be forwarded to the relevant DEECD Regional Coordinator, who will pass these details to the service provider in their Region, so that a local Careers Counsellor can contact the young person to make the first appointment with the service.
