Study grants
The Department is offering study grants for completion of a Graduate Certificate in Career Development to increase the number of qualified Victorian career practitioners assisting young people with their career development and pathway planning.
The study grants are part of the Improved Career Development Services initiative of the National Partnership on Youth Attainment and Transitions, a joint initiative of the Australian and State and Territory Governments. The Partnership aims to increase participation of young people in education and training, increase attainment levels, and improve successful transitions from school.
Fifty study grants have been offered in 2010. More will be made available in 2011 to 2013.

Previous professional learning programs
Certificate IV in Career Development
In 2009, MIPs coordinators and other careers personnel in government schools were supported by the Department to achieve a Certificate IV in Career Development, either through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or funded coursework.
Graduate Certificate in Career Education
In 2007 and 2008 scholarships were provided for careers coordinators/teachers in government schools to undertake a Graduate Certificate in Career Education.
Industry Placement Programs
The Industry Placement Program (IPP), offered in 2007 and 2008, provided a unique opportunity for selected careers coordinators to spend three weeks with an employer or group training provider, exploring industry pathways. The teachers used the insights gained to develop a school-industry link project to benefit young people at their school, and often beyond. Some used the experience to establish the foundations for ongoing school-industry partnerships.
