Casual Relief Teachers Professional Learning Support Initiative
Casual Relief Teachers (CRT) have considerable potential to improve student learning outcomes, and maintaining and sustaining their professional knowledge and practice can provide significant benefits to schools and students.
A key method for providing professional learning is to provide support for CRTs to access face-to-face presentations and workshop style activities.
In partnership with supporting government schools, the Department assists a number of CRT networks operating across Victoria that are each led by CRT Network Coordinators who have experience in organising professional learning activities. CRT networks are operating in a range of regional locations.

Maintenance and recognition of professional development
To meet the VIT requirements for renewal of registration, CRTs must maintain their professional knowledge and practice by undertaking relevant professional learning activities. To meet these requirements CRTs need to document and retain evidence of the quantity and scope of professional learning activities that they undertake.
The scope of professional development can include a range of activities – conferences, workshops, seminars, online learning, professional reading, certified courses and school based professional development activities.
Acceptable evidence can be validated by a school leader or employer, by the provision of a certificate of participation or receipt of payment for courses. The completion of a written reflection on professional reading, including on-line publications, needs to be completed as evidence of professional learning.
