English Language Schools and Centres and Regional English Language Programs

From Term 1 2017, Victorian government and Catholic schools will use the new Victorian Curriculum F-10. Curriculum related information is currently being reviewed and may be subject to change.

Metropolitan ELS and ELC

There are eight English language schools and centres in the Melbourne metropolitan area.

The four stand-alone English language schools (ELS) cater for both primary and secondary students up to the equivalent of Year 10. Some English language schools also have campuses off site.

The four English language centres (ELC) are attached to mainstream secondary schools. All English language centres cater for secondary students in Years 7–10.

The majority of students attend an English language school, campus or centre for two terms. The small class sizes and high number of contact hours enable qualified EAL teachers to deliver an intensive English language program tailored to the differing needs of students. This helps them to adapt as quickly as possible to the Australian education system and society. EAL is taught through the content of all learning areas.
