New Graduate Incentives provides assistance to schools experiencing difficulty attracting high quality graduate teachers.
Financial assistance is available for schools experiencing difficulty attracting high quality graduate teachers to teach in:
- rural and regional schools
- in difficult to recruit curriculum areas.
Eligible schools can promote the availability of an Incentive as part of the employment package when advertising vacant positions.
Incentives valued at up to $11,000 are available to eligible schools to enable them to provide new graduates with a cash payment as part of an offer of ongoing employment.
Three Incentive types are available:
Category 1: Priority and rural schools
Incentive valued at up to $11,000.
Category 2: Provincial and outer metropolitan growth schools
Incentive valued at up to $7,000.
Category 3: All other schools with a hard-to-staff teaching vacancy
Incentive valued at up to $4,000.
Recipients will be required to enter into a formal agreement with the Department to work in the teaching position for a minimum period of time.
Schools are eligible to apply for a New Graduate Incentive if they:
- are defined as an eligible school or have a hard-to-staff position in a difficult-to-recruit curriculum area*
- have a vacant ongoing position
- can demonstrate the position is hard-to-staff.
Which schools are eligible?
Eligible schools have been designated according to recruitment difficulty reported in the Department’s Teacher Recruitment Census.
Eligible schools are available by region:
- North Eastern Victoria
- North Western Victoria
- South Eastern Victoria
- South Western Victoria.
