Help for Graduate Teachers to Find a Job

The Department runs a program to help graduate teachers find a job in a Victorian Government School. This is known as the Teacher Graduate Recruitment Program.

The program runs alongside Incentives to attract graduate teachers

The program highlights particular vacancies that would be appropriate for new graduates.

Who can apply

Teacher Graduate Recruitment program vacancies are only open to recent teaching graduates.

You are considered a graduate if you:

  • have qualified as a teacher
  • graduated in the last four years
  • and are not employed as a teacher by the Department at the time of the commencement of the employment.

If you are a graduate you are eligible for employment as a teacher if you have evidence of course completion, through the presentation of an official academic record of your four-year tertiary study program that includes an approved course of teacher training.

All teachers, including prospective teachers, must be registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching. If you are successful you will also be required to satisfy Department pre-employment requirements before commencing employment.

Using Recruitment Online

When searching for graduate teacher or teaching scholarship positions on Recruitment Online, it is recommended you use the Keywords Search and enter ‘Teacher Graduate’ or ‘New Graduate Incentive Program’ in the Keyword field.

Your results can be further refined by selecting the filters available on the search page.

Next steps

After the closing date for vacancy applications advertised on Recruitment Online under the Graduate Recruitment Program, a merit-based selection process is used to determine the best available graduate.

All graduates employed through the program are required to provide the principal with:

  • certified copies of all official academic records
  • proof of age and identity
  • statements of any prior teaching service.

If you are successful, you must also be registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and satisfy all Department pre-employment requirements before commencing employment.
