Teacher Supply and Demand

From Term 1 2017, Victorian government and Catholic schools will use the new Victorian Curriculum F-10. Curriculum related information is currently being reviewed and may be subject to change.

For more information on the curriculum, see:
The Victorian Curriculum F–10 - VCAA

The Department produces a regular Teacher Supply and Demand Report which aims to provide a comprehensive cross-sectoral picture of the Victorian teacher workforce.

The report is a convenient reference document for the Department, schools, early childhood settings, universities, prospective and current initial teacher education students and other stakeholders in the Victorian school teacher labour market. It facilitates constructive conversations between the Department and Victorian universities, the Catholic and independent sectors and other stakeholders on teacher supply and demand issues.

Major components of the Report are:

  • Supply – enrolment, destination and related initial teacher education data from Victorian universities and other sources
  • Demand – school enrolment and employment data, and
  • Matching supply and demand – current and projected teacher shortages or surpluses.
