Student Engagement and Inclusion Guidance

From Term 1 2017, Victorian government and Catholic schools will use the new Victorian Curriculum F-10. Curriculum related information is currently being reviewed and may be subject to change.

For more information on the curriculum, see:
The Victorian Curriculum F–10 - VCAA

The Student Engagement and Inclusion Guidance provides schools with information and resources to create and maintain safe, supportive and inclusive learning environments and implement staged responses to manage and respond to challenging student behaviour.

What the Guidance contains

The Guidance includes information on:

  • Student Engagement Policy – provides advice on the development of a school-based engagement policy that outlines the rights, responsibilities and shared expectations of everyone in the school community
  • Student Behaviour – contains advice and strategies for improving learner behaviour and intervening early to address challenging behaviours
  • Strategies and Supports Available To Schools – details departmental resources available to schools and suggests strategies for intervening early to address the needs of vulnerable and disengaged students
  • Discipline – sets disciplinary processes (including suspension and expulsion) within their context as part of a staged response to addressing challenging behaviour
