Note: All government schools in operation on 30 June 2007 were deemed to be registered on 1 July 2007, when the Act was declared.
Policy
The Minister for Education has legislative responsibility for the education of all primary and secondary school children.
All providers of school education must ensure that:
- the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) has granted registration to them before they begin operating
- they meet minimum standards
- they support and promote the principles of Australian democracy.
See:
Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority
Government school registration
Government schools must notify the regional office when they propose any of the following:
- opening a new school
- creating a new school through the merger of existing schools
- opening an additional campus
- relocating a school to a new site
- offering additional year levels
- changing a school’s registration type, such as from primary to specialist.
Government school registration applications are managed by the System Design and Integration Division. Registrations are assessed and submitted to the VRQA by the System Design and Integration Division on behalf of the Deputy Secretary, Regional Services Group. Schools that are required to submit a VRQA registration should contact the relevant regional office, who will liaise with the System Design and Integration Division.
