Student Transport Programs
Parents have primary responsibility for transporting their children to and from school however the Department offers different types of transport assistance to students residing in rural and regional Victoria. The Department also provides transport assistance to students attending a specialist school. Students residing in metropolitan Melbourne may be entitled to the Victorian Student Pass (VSP), which is administered by Public Transport Victoria (PTV).
Schools are responsible for providing advice to families regarding the transport options available to their school, including the nearest bus, tram or train lines and routes.
When discussing transport assistance or the VSP, schools are required to clearly and accurately explain the eligibility criteria and the obligations of travel when a family accepts travel assistance or purchases a VSP.
