What is a Performance and Development Culture?

A Performance and Development Culture is evident when:

  • The school culture supports the personal professional growth of staff
  • The school culture contributes to the capacity of the school to continuously improve student learning outcomes
  • The school has very good processes for supporting and developing staff and ensuring accountability
  • The school culture is open to personal growth, continuous improvement and the use of data.

How many schools achieved P&D Culture accreditation?

At the end of December 2009, 1566 - or 98.4% - of Victorian government schools had achieved P&D Culture accreditation. 39 Catholic schools had also achieved accreditation. 

Will there be a reaccreditation process in the future?

There are no plans for a reaccreditation process, however schools are expected to continually monitor and strengthen their P&D Culture.

How can schools monitor and strengthen their P&D Culture post accreditation?

The P&D Culture page in the School Level Report enables schools to monitor their P&D Culture. This data, combined with a self-assessment against the Revised Self Assessment Framework (PDF - 1 (pdf - 1.14mb) will assist schools to identify strategies and actions for strengthening their P&D Culture post accreditation which can be included in the school or network Strategic Plan or Annual Implementation Plan.

What is the purpose of the Revised Self Assessment Framework?

The Revised Self Assessment Framework (PDF - 1 (pdf - 1.14mb)  is designed to:

  • Support the implementation of the e5 Instructional Model    (PDF - 322Kb) (pdf - 321.78kb)using the elements of P&D Culture
  • Monitor and enhance schools’ ongoing P&D Culture and practice post accreditation
  • Identify areas for improvement of individual and organisational practice to enhance student outcomes
  • Include all members of staff in a P&D Culture.

How does the Revised Self Assessment Framework differ from the original Self Assessment Framework?

The main changes in the Revised Self Assessment Framework (PDF - 1 (pdf - 1.14mb) are:

  • The inclusion of school support and non-teaching staff in a P&D Culture
  • A stronger focus on improving instructional practice and implementing the e5 Instructional Model (PDF - 322Kb) (pdf - 321.78kb)
  • Level 1 in the Revised Self Assessment Framework was previously Level 4, the accreditation level, in the original Self Assessment Framework
  • Level 5 on the original Self Assessment Framework has been elaborated on to become Levels 2 and 3 on the Revised Self Assessment Framework which provide P&D Culture practices to support schools beyond the accreditation standard. 

Are school support staff and other non-teaching staff involved in a P&D Culture?

As valuable contributors to the achievement of school goals and improved student learning outcomes, non-teaching staff are included in a P&D Culture.   

Can I still access information that used to be on the P&D Culture website?

Tthe National Library's PANDORA website regularly preserves Australian websites of public interest. The P&D Culture website has been most recently archived to the PANDORA web archive in February 2010  and in previous years. Information that was on the site at those times can be viewed on the PANDORA site.
