Children and young people with an ASD may require personalised learning and support at a number of levels during their schooling. The Department is supporting all Victorian government early childhood and school settings to have the skills and resources to provide individual learning and support. There are three levels of planning that are a required for a comprehensive and coordinated approach:
- a whole-community approach to building a positive and inclusive culture
- a targeted approach to identify strengths and address needs
- a personalised response to address specific strengths and needs.
Children and young people may benefit from all three levels during their schooling as they grow and develop with changes in their life and stage of schooling.
This coordinated approach to ASD support is built on a system-wide inclusive approach to educational leadership and building staff capacity to ensure the necessary knowledge, skills and teaching and learning strategies are in place to provide personalised learning and support in autism friendly learning environments.
