The Victorian Curriculum F–10 - VCAA
Victorian Curriculum F–10 sets out a single, coherent and comprehensive set of content descriptions and associated achievement standards to enable teachers to plan, monitor, assess and report on the learning achievement of every student.
The Victorian Curriculum F–10 incorporates the following eight learning areas:
- The Arts
- Health and Physical Education
- Languages other than English
- The Humanities
All Victorian schools are required by legislation, Education and Training Reform Act 2006, and as a condition of their registration with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority to provide instruction in the eight learning areas, including Languages.
The Victorian Curriculum Languages - provides language-specific curriculum in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Modern Greek, Spanish, Turkish and Vietnamese. A number of additional language specific curriculum continue to be developed.
School Policy and Advisory Guide - Languages - Provides schools with advice for providing students with access to languages education.
Languages Policy and Legislative Requirements- Outlines a school’s responsibility to provide a language program in line with Victorian legislation and policy including reference to the national policy context
Quality Languages Programs - Describes a quality language program and provides links to further information and support
Getting started with a new program - Provides a process for school communities to investigate, discuss, consult and plan for a new or changing language program
Provides advice on how to staff a language program, information about languages teaching qualifications and how to address language teacher retention issues
Assistants for language education programs - Provides information about volunteer and paid assistants
Funding and Resourcing -
Provides information about funding for language programs in government schools and other resources and support
School Planning and Policy - Provides schools with advice for developing a language education policy statement
Approaches to languages education - Provides information about the types of language programs offered in Victorian schools, pedagogical approaches to language teaching, curriculum, assessment and reporting, and delivery options including clustering and video conferencing
Bilingual Programs - Provides information about bilingual programs in Victorian government schools
Complementary providers - Provides information about students learning languages at the Victorian School of Languages and community language schools
Promoting languages learning - Provides posters, pamphlets and information schools can use to promote language learning within their communities
