  • Available for one or more years, subject to satisfactory academic progress
  • Awarded to one female Koorie student

Who can apply?
  • Female Koorie students completing Year 12 in 2009 in a Victorian secondary school
  • Students intending to or studying law, social work, education, psychology or applied science (health production, nursing, etc)

Selection criteria
  • Student's VCE, TAFE or university results
  • Student's letter of offer into the approved course
  • Student's community involvement in the Koorie population
  • Students commencing an approved TAFE or university course in a field that contributes to the welfare of the Koorie population on achieving VCE or VCAL

The David Burgess Foundation Award


Applications for this annual award are invited from Principals of Victorian government secondary schools on behalf of current Year 12 students who have had to struggle to overcome adversity, who have shown commitment to their own goals and to those of the community and who, with some help, will achieve those goals. Award winners receive approximately $3,000 towards the cost of tertiary education in each year of their course, support and guidance from mentors.

Application forms are posted to all Victorian government secondary schools in August.

The Margaret Schofield Memorial Scholarship


Applications for this annual scholarship are invited from government school students of VCE Music - Solo Performance. The selection panel will consider applicants who can demonstrate a commitment to music in recent years and to a future career in music performance. The students’ study scores for VCE Music - Solo Performance will be taken into consideration.

This scholarship was established by the family of the late Margaret Schofield in recognition of her achievements as a musician and her commitment to music education and is coordinated by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).

The annual scholarship of $5,000 will contribute towards the cost of tertiary education in music performance.

Closing date for applications is 30 October 2009.

United World Colleges Scholarships


United World Colleges was founded in 1962. It is an organisation dedicated to the promotion of world peace through the education of young people. Students in their last two years of secondary school are chosen from over eighty countries to travel and attend one of the twelve UWC colleges. The main objective is to select outstanding young people from the maximum variety of national and social backgrounds.

Students are assessed on their personal merit and potential, irrespective of race, creed, colour, gender, family background or ability to pay. The first Australian student attended a UWC in 1971 and since then 300 Australians have attended 8 of the colleges.

Closing date is 2 April 2010.

Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund (VBAF) Scholarship Program


Scholarship details
  • Provided by the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund
  • Valued at $15,000 per year for the duration of the course of study subject to satisfactory progress

Who can apply?
  • Students completing Year 12 in 2009 in a Victorian secondary school
  • Students who were affected by the 2009 bushfires who are starting a course of tertiary or vocational education in 2010, and whose family is continuing to experience financial hardship as a result of the fires
  • Students who were directly affected - physically, psychologically or financially - by the February 2009 fires and are intending to undertake a course of study that is related to bushfire preparedness, response and recovery (e.g. medicine, nursing, paramedic and first aid training, emergency management, social or youth work or environment management)

Selection criteria
  • Student's curent end-of-year results
  • Family's or student's financial circumstances
  • Impact of the 2009 bushfires on the student and his/her family
  • Student's overall academic performance and ability to complete the chosen course of study
  • Student's participation in extra-curricular activities
  • Student's commitment to future community or public service

Further information
  • Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund (VBAF) has identified education opportunities for young people affected by the fires as important to their ongoing recovery.
  • The VBAF scholarships are intended to contribute to a student’s living and other education costs such as fees and textbooks.
  • VBAF may request further information from applicants during the application and assessment process.
