Oakleigh Technical School Society Direct Descendent Scholarship


The Oakleigh Technical School Society Direct Descendent Scholarship is worth $300 and is available to a descendent of a Life Member of the Oakleigh Technical School Society who is currently a Year 6 student. In keeping with the school's motto "Our Best Always" scholarships are awarded to sixth grade students who are diligent, making an effort to succeed, while showing genuine enthusiasm. The criteria do not necessarily require high marks to gain these awards.

  • In 1946, funds were bequeathed by Robert Sterne Marr to provide a scholarship in perpetuity for the promotion and encouragement of education in Victoria.
  • The money is paid to the student's school for essential educational items for which parents are normally expected to pay or pay the school to provide. These essential items do not include voluntary contributions.
  • At the end of the year the remaining balance is paid to the parent/guardian for the benefit of the student.

The AusIMM EEF Scholarships


The AusIMM Education Endowment Fund (EEF) Scholarships were established to support the future leaders of the minerals industry through their higher education studies. As well as receiving financial support for up to three years, students receive the invaluable benefits of mentoring and networking opportunities with a major minerals company.

The scholarships are currently valued at $8,000 per year for a standard EEF scholarship, and $14,000 per year for a Sir Frank Espie/Rio Tinto scholarship. The AusIMM also offers a range of various travel and thesis scholarships and prizes.

The Captain Reg Saunders Scholarship


The Captain Reg Saunders Scholarship is an annual scholarship open to Koorie and Torres Strait Islanders who are eligible to commence, or are currently studying, a university degree or diploma course in 2010 and intend undertaking this degree/diploma in the area of psychology, nursing, applied science, social work or education. This Scholarship is valued at $3,000 for one year.

Closing date for applications is 31 October 2009 for a grant next year.

The Dafydd Lewis Trust Scholarships


Male students undertaking a degree course at a Victorian university (other than in theology, music, arts and education) may apply for scholarships under the Dafydd Lewis Trust. The scholarships are open to boys no more than 18 years and six months old at 1 January, the year they commence their degree, who have been educated in Victoria at a government secondary school for at least five consecutive years and whose parent’s joint gross income is not more than $55,600 per annum.

The Dafydd Lewis Scholarship is valued at $18,000 each year and available for the duration of the student’s undergraduate degree.

Applications close on 15 December each year.

The David Burgess Foundation Award


Applications for this annual award are invited from Principals of Victorian government secondary schools on behalf of current Year 12 students who have had to struggle to overcome adversity, who have shown commitment to their own goals and to those of the community and who, with some help, will achieve those goals. Award winners receive approximately $3,000 towards the cost of tertiary education in each year of their course, support and guidance from mentors.

The Frederick Richard O’Connell Scholarship


Applications are invited from students who are or who will be eligible to study at a Victorian university in 2010.

Scholarships are available to candidates who are about to commence or who have already commenced a degree or accredited course conducted by a Victorian university. Preference will be given to candidates who are children of either employees or directors/proprietors of companies that are members of the Timber Merchants Association (Victoria).

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of good character, personality, academic achievement and proficiency at sport. Grants of $10,000 are available.

The Margaret Schofield Memorial Scholarship


Applications for this annual scholarship are invited from government school students of VCE Music - Solo Performance. The selection panel will consider applicants who can demonstrate a commitment to music in recent years and to a future career in music performance. The students’ study scores for VCE Music - Solo Performance will be taken into consideration.

This scholarship was established by the family of the late Margaret Schofield in recognition of her achievements as a musician and her commitment to music education and is coordinated by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).

The annual scholarship of $5,000 will contribute towards the cost of tertiary education in music performance.

United World Colleges Scholarships


United World Colleges was founded in 1962. It is an organisation dedicated to the promotion of world peace through the education of young people. Students in their last two years of secondary school are chosen from over eighty countries to travel and attend one of the twelve UWC colleges. The main objective is to select outstanding young people from the maximum variety of national and social backgrounds.

Students are assessed on their personal merit and potential, irrespective of race, creed, colour, gender, family background or ability to pay. The first Australian student attended a UWC in 1971 and since then 300 Australians have attended 8 of the colleges.
