It’s easy to start participating in web conferences. The only equipment you need is a computer with an internet connection and a microphone headset to enable you to listen, speak and participate in activities. You can also use a webcam if you have one, to integrate video into your web conference.
To prepare for your first web conference, follow the steps below:
To use BlackBoard Collaborate, you need to have Java Webstart installed on your computer. See: How do I test whether Java is working on my computer?
If you do not have Java installed, see: Java Downloads for All Operating Systems
The Virtual Conference Centre training room is open 24 hours for you to practise in. Once you have installed BlackBoard Collaborate you should visit the training room to check everything is set up properly.
When you enter the training room you will be asked for a user name. This will be listed as your name in the room and will be viewable to any other participants. Use your full name at this prompt (eg John Smith). If you wish, you can also include some identifying information, such as the name of the school you are from.
