Running a Web Conference

Web conferences have many applications and benefits in education. Staff members are currently using them for:

  •  holding online meetings
  • accessing professional learning
  • teaching classes
  • enabling student collaboration
  • bringing experts into the classroom.

The facilitator of a web conference is referred to as the moderator. As a moderator, you have more privileges and access to more features, to allow you to manage your participants and plan interactive content. 

The Department's staff members, Department strategic partners and all Victorian P-12 educators and are able to book and run their own web conferences in the Virtual Conference Centre.

How to run your own web conference

  1. To become familiar with the BlackBoard Collaborate software, you can join a live training session or access BlackBoard Collaborate tutorials. See: Training
  2. Register as a user of the Virtual Conference Centre, by completing the Virtual Conference Centre Moderator Registration Form
  3. Login to the BlackBoard Collaborate Session Administration System (SAS). See: BlackBoard Collaborate User Log-in
  4. Schedule a session and reserve your required number of ‘seats’. The tutorials below will step you through setting up your Elluminate session: Scheduling Elluminate sessions in the Virtual Conference Centre (PDF - 448Kb)
  5. Send the guest link to your participants along with information on how to prepare for their session. See: Resources
