VCAMS IT Information System Project

Project Scope

For VCAMS to achieve its maximum potential, to improve outcomes for children through facilitating data driven and evidence-based planning and policy and to ensure that legislated reporting requirements can be met in a more systematic and efficient manner, an IT solution is currently under development that will:

  • Facilitate secure and automated provision of data for VCAMS indicators (and include appropriate validations)
  • Manage all VCAMS data and provide a central knowledge base repository
  • Publish up to date VCAMS data on a website that will present indicator data in a variety of forms such as tables, charts, maps.

In parallel with development of the IT solution, signed data sharing agreements with key providers for each indicator have been established which  specify the required format, content, frequency and report approval release process.

To facilitate this, a data management committee has been established to oversee the development, management and ongoing review of each data sharing agreement between the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and other departmental data providers.

Interim VCAMS Information Portal

With delivery of the final integrated system expected in 2012, an interim VCAMS information portal has been created to provide improved access to currently available data. Note that the data displayed has been taken from the State of Victoria’s children 2008 report. Each indicator page provides links to metadata descriptions to support data interpretation, related government policies and strategies which can be implemented to effect improvement.
