Pedagogy and Space

Awareness of the relationship between the educational and architectural design features and principles when planning new learning environments in Victoria has escalated in the last five years. Not only should school buildings be durable and aesthetically pleasing, but they need to be functional and fit for purpose.

This publication explores the leading practices that have been adopted by schools and teachers in their quest to improve student learning outcomes and to more effectively identify and respond to student learning needs.

The design of new learning environments should enable teachers to work together differently, to learn and practise new skills together, and to readily access resources to support the teaching and learning relationship.

Transforming the Learning Experience

The findings of government investment in the Leading Schools Fund initiative is the focus of the Transforming the Learning Experience publication. These findings are synthesised into eight key variables characterising transformation, the central element of which is teaching and learning. A strong focus on all the variables is essential for schools to achieve sustainable whole school transformation demonstrating evidence of innovative and student centred learning.

The transformation variables represent the areas in which schools need to invest strategic effort in order to positively impact student learning needs.

The Leading Schools Fund Experience

The Leading Schools Fund initiative has stimulated innovation in secondary schools across Victoria. It aimed to transform teaching practice and improve student learning outcomes by investing in additional teachers, accessible ICT and learning spaces.

This publication explores the LSF experience and highlights the experiences of a number of schools.

Transformation and development matrix
