Next Practice Design Teams Pilot Project
The Next Practice Design Teams Pilot Project recognised that innovation happens in our schools. Teachers and communities have frequently constructed better ways of teaching to meet the learning needs of individuals and groups of students.
The project supported teams of teachers, researchers and other experts to work together to look beyond what they currently do well and identify the teaching and learning models of tomorrow.
The project produced policy, teaching and learning models and a range of innovation tools.
The two content areas selected for the trial projects, which addressed DEECD priorities ‘Building Futures’ and Literacy, were:
- Pedagogy and Space
- Literacy
In May 2007 schools and networks were invited to apply to participate in the project and 19 were selected to form the two teams.
The Next Practice Design Teams Pilot Project was informed by the following key messages:
- Innovation - a creative and collaborative process with an objective to increase the responsiveness of teaching and learning to the needs of individuals, impact positively on specified learning outcomes and build community engagement.
- Vision - Practitioner led innovation creates next practice in education
- Mission - Teams of teachers work with experts to design and share innovative ways of teaching and learning
- Success in terms of the project - a proven model to support the development of school and network based innovation.
Project Partners
The Next Practice Design Teams Pilot project brought together teachers, researchers, experts, and partners from fields outside education including Information and Communication Technologies and Architecture and Design to provide a rich mix of ideas, expertise and practical experience.
The panel provided workshops, consultancy and individual advice. For details how the panel supported the project team with development of the project model and individual schools and networks with their specific project focus, see: Design Teams Expert Panel Activity report (Word - 266Kb)
