Helen Simons – Institutional Self-Evaluation: Promises and Pitfalls – 18 March 2008
On Tuesday 19 February Professor Helen Simons from the University of Southampton, UK, ran a workshop on Institutional Self Evaluation for 50 participants from DEECD central office, regional offices, schools, the Association of Independent Schools of Victoria and the VCAA.
Helen examined developments in institutional self evaluation (focusing particularly on schools) and shared her view on what is needed to strengthen this process as an integral part of school development and accountability. She emphasised that institutional self evaluation is a collective enterprise that requires a culture of collaboration, evaluation training and support of the broader school community in order to become an effective process for school development.
