Research into 0-18 Learning and Development Forum

The Research Branch hosted the Research into 0–18 Learning and Development Forum on Friday 23 April 2010.

The forum brought together Victorian researchers, stakeholders and policy makers to share and explore the research findings and learnings that are contributing to achieving Victoria’s 0–18 learning and development agenda. DEECD’s intention to move towards larger-scale approaches to research and evaluation was also discussed.

The participants included individuals from across DEECD, universities and research institutes. The forum incorporated snapshot presentations from various organisations including: Australian Youth Research Centre, The University of Melbourne, Parenting Research Centre, and Royal Children’s Hospital Education Institute. Facilitated sessions enabled participants to network, share and building knowledge, and identify research issues and gaps.

The 0–18 research: a life course model (A3 tool) was developed for the forum and included the 0–18 learning and development outcomes for Victoria’s children and young people and the Department’s goals for achieving these outcomes. In one workshop activity participants drew on their research knowledge and expertise to identify enablers that contribute to achieving the goals and outcomes and, conversely, examples of inhibitors that lead to negative outcomes. The tool can be used to generate discussion and to inform decision-making at the local level.
