Notschool.net ~ Providing online learning when school doesn't fit

June 2009 Jean Johnson is the Chief Executive of Notschool.net and is recognised internationally for her passion and commitment to social inclusion for disadvantaged youth. Jean has worked in the education field for twenty five years, beginning her career in East London schools working with difficult and disaffected teenagers. Sometimes described as the technical brain behind Notschool.net, Jonny Dyer has worked on the project since 2000. He brought with him an extensive academic research experience, technological expertise and knowledge of alternative learning paradigms. In this forum Jean and Jonny told the story of Notschool.net, why it was started, what it is and what it can achieve. They focussed on how an online environment can re-engage learners or provide alternatives for students not flourishing in schools. Participants were able to ask many questions and take away important learning about what works and what doesn’t in virtual learning spaces. Notschool.netNotschool.net is an international online learning community offering an alternative to traditional education for young people who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to engage with school or other complementary provisions such as home tutoring or specialist units.
