Western Metropolitan Region Blueprint for School Improvement

The Western Metropolitan Region Blueprint for School Improvement was launched at the principal class forum on 27 January 2009. Plans for its implementation were developed across the course of the day. The Blueprint for School Improvement has been developed around our guiding question: “what will it take to become the most rapidly improving region in student learning outcomes in the state?”

Integration of Early Childhood and Youth Services into DEECD

On 1 January 2009 Early Childhood and Youth Services formally integrated with Education in the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. The functions and programs that are now the responsibility of DEECD Western Metropolitan Region are: Maternal and Child Health Services; child care and kindergarten; licensing and regulations; school nursing; school focused youth services; parenting programs; Koorie early childhood programs; specialist children’s services; early intervention services; school planning; school performance and accountability; education provision and school infrastructure (facilities); teaching and learning; student wellbeing; and school and regional operations. These changes are a unique and exciting opportunity to deliver seamless services to improve outcomes for every child and every family in the Western Metropolitan Region.

Victorian term dates

Term 1: 2 February (students start) to 3 April - teachers begin Term 1 on 28 January
Term 2: 20 April to 26 June (12 June will be a student free day)
Term 3: 13 July to 18 September
Term 4: 5 October to 18 December
