OHS Consultation

The Occupational Health and Safety Act (2004) enables the election of Health and Safety Representatives (HSR) as well as outlining the role of the HSR in the workplace. HSR are elected by employees in their designated workgroups (DWG) to act on their behalf on health and safety matters. Under the Act more than one HSR can be elected per DWG as well as a deputy HSR.

The HSR role should not be confused with the OHS management nominee who is normally a member of the management team with delegated responsibilities to manage the local workplace OHS management system and implement OHS management systems after consultation with the HSR and employees.
