About Our Region
Western Metropolitan Region includes the Local Government Areas of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melbourne, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham.
Western Metropolitan Region is a culturally and linguistically diverse region with very rapid growth in population. The total population in the Western Metropolitan Region is more than 710,000 with a regional Aboriginal population of more than 2,500.
The suburbs of Melton and Tarneit are predicted to more than double in size by 2011, and Wyndham is currently one of the fastest growing cities, if not the fastest growing city, in Australia. Children currently represent about 24% of the population in Wyndham and Melton, which is higher than the metropolitan Melbourne average of 18%.
The region provides educational services to more than 68,000 students in 139 government schools across 161 sites. We have 90 primary, 29 secondary, eight combined primary and secondary and 10 special schools, including one special teaching unit and one English language school.
In the region licensed children's services include long day care, kindergarten and occasional care programs.
