Teacher Mentor Support Program
A two day Teacher Mentor Support Program has been developed by DEECD. It is delivered in partnership with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) at locations across the state.
What is Included in the Program?
The program examines the behaviours and skills acknowledged as the Practice of Mentoring. Activities enable participants to construct a deeper conceptualisation of Mentoring that goes beyond what we intuitively do as good teachers. A session by the VIT will also help to unpack the process of supporting the beginning teacher to achieve full registration and present the required Evidence of Professional Practice.
Day 1
- The context for Mentoring
- What is Mentoring?
- Building Relationships
- Mentoring Skills
- A Beginning Teacher’s Perspective
Day 2
- Mentoring stages

Time is allowed for reflective conversations with other mentors as a means of confirming and extending ideas and understandings.
