Induction

Induction is one of the earliest stages within the continuum of teacher professional learning. It is about experienced and new teachers working together, continuously improving their practice and becoming part of a community of learners.

Induction can help in capturing and nurturing the drive and commitment to student learning and wellbeing. In this way, induction assists in connecting professional learning to the teacher’s moral purpose – to make a difference to the lives of their students.

Who is Induction for?

School-based induction should respond to various needs. Regardless of whether you are Victorian, interstate or overseas trained - it should be available to you if you are a:

  • Beginning Teacher - starting to teach in a school for the first time
  • Returning Teacher - returning after short-term leave. If you are returning from a longer period of leave, see: Refresher Courses
  • Transferring Teacher - moving to a new school and continuing to teach
  • Promoted Teacher - receiving new duties or levels of responsibility
  • School Services Officer - new to the school or undertaking a different role

Casual Replacement Teachers should receive an effective school orientation program, which contains some of the elements used in school-based induction.
