Education Support Professional Learning
A Window into Autism
A Window into Autism is a professional learning opportunity for integration aides who want to understand more about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and improve outcomes for the students with ASD that they support.
The Autism Teaching Institute (ATI) has been engaged to facilitate this program. All workshops will be conducted by ATI expert practitioners currently working in the field. This is an invaluable workshop for Education Support staff working with students with an ASD.
Who can participate?
This program is open to integration aides currently employed within a Victorian government school.
The program is fully subsidised. There is no cost for participation.
This program is a repeat of last year's A Window into Autism program. Education support staff who attended last year's program need not apply.
What will I learn?
The program supports participants to explore Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by covering:
- autism diagnosis and core impairments
- learning and behavioural characteristics across the autism spectrum
- specialised evidence based intervention strategies.
Program structure
The program offers a blended approach to professional learning and consists of three components:
| 1. Pre-Workshop: | A task, based on a profile of a student with ASD, is completed by participants together with a teacher involved with the student’s learning. |
| 2. Workshop: | A one day face-to-face workshop facilitated and supported by experienced practitioners. |
| 3. Post Workshop: | A discussion about new strategies to trial with the student takes place between the participant and the teacher. A live online chat room session will provide participants with the opportunity to ask further questions, share experiences and access resources. |
