Leading across Effective Small Schools
Who can participate?
The program is open to teams of teachers and leaders from small schools. A team will comprise a cluster of six to seven small schools (schools with one hundred students or less).
What will I learn?
The Leading across Effective Small Schools program is designed to enhance participants’ leadership capabilities through working collaboratively on an improvement area.
The program aims to:
- improve participants’ skills in strategic thinking and planning within and across small schools;
- develop participants’ understanding of change management and its implications for school improvement;
- increase participants’ understanding of the Effective Schools Model and its relevance for leaders within and across small schools; and
- strengthen participants’ ability to develop purposeful relationships in order to achieve shared goals.
How is the program structured?
The program is delivered over one year and includes:
- an initial two-day forum which will cover leadership theory and strategic thinking and planning for small schools and clusters;
- an action learning project to facilitate the enhancement of leadership skills;
- a one-day forum to further explore issues in relation to small schools and reflect on the theory presented in the first session and its impact on practice;
- a mentor with experience and knowledge of small school communities who will provide support; and
- a final one-day forum for reflection on the program and how it has impacted on leadership within small schools and clusters.
