Human Leadership: Developing People
Who can participate?
The program is open to leading teachers, assistant principals and principals with the classification PR1 who want to strengthen their capabilities in the domain of human leadership.
What will I learn?
The Human Leadership: Developing People program is designed to support participants’ development in the Human Leadership domain.
The program aims to:
- develop participants’ ability to sustain their own and others’ well being;
- improve participants’ skills in addressing attitudes and behaviours that impact on the maintenance of safe and healthy co-operative learning environments;
- develop participants’ capacity to develop strong and purposeful relationships at all levels in the system;
- improve participants’ skills in creating organisational conditions conducive to the learning and growth of all members of the school community; and
- enhance participants’ skills in developing the capacity of others.
How is the program structured?
The program is delivered over six months and includes:
- an intensive residential workshop including presentations from local and international educational theorists and researchers;
- development and implementation of a human leadership improvement plan incorporating related professional learning;
- learning groups of fifteen-eighteen participants who collaborate regularly online, lead chapter discussions, and support and coach one another with their human leadership action plans;
- a final workshop to review learning and plan for sustained program impact.
What assistance is provided?
The cost of the program is covered. This includes materials, meals and accommodation during the residential workshop. Where necessary, additional accommodation will be provided for participants who have travelled more than two hours to attend the program.
CRT and travel costs are not covered.
What is expected of me?
Participants are expected to:
- be self-directed learners;
- engage with literature and research requiring new learning and an expansion of perspective and knowledge base, including reading a core text, and one other prescribed text;
- design and implement a Human Leadership: Developing People improvement project in their school;
- contribute to learning group leadership by sharing information and contributing postings to the online learning and reflection space as per agreed commitments;
- participate in a highly interactive program requiring collaborative study, and individual and collective reflection and feedback.
Accreditation
Participant’s work may be further developed for Masters credit advanced standing for application to Master in School Leadership or other leadership MEd at Monash.
How do I become involved?
Applicants must complete the Expression of Interest Form (Word - 161Kb) which is to be supported by their principal, or Senior Education Officer for principal applicants.
Expressions of Interest for 2009 will Open on 21 July and Close on 14 October 2008
