Performance and Development Culture

What will I learn?

This resource will assist school principals to enhance and strengthen their school’s Performance and Development Culture.

The Performance and Development Culture initiative was designed to:

  • improve student outcomes by identifying areas for the improvement of individual teachers’ professional practice and providing targeted professional development to address these areas, and
  • create a more enriching, supportive and motivating environment for staff

The five elements of a Performance and Development Culture are:

  1. Induction into the school or into a new role
  2. Multiple sources of feedback on practice
  3. Individual performance and development plans aligned to school goals
  4. Quality professional learning
  5. Belief that the school has a performance and development culture

Accreditation signifies that schools have the five foundational elements of the P&D Culture Self Assessment Framework in place. The formal accreditation process will cease at the end of 2009.

In line with principles of continuous improvement it is expected that schools will continue to enhance each of the five elements. The revised Self Assessment Framework supports the implementation of the e5 Instructional Model and enhances Performance and Development Culture practices post accreditation.
