Carole Wilkinson
Which character from a book would you most like to meet or to be?
I'd like to be Thursday Next from the Jasper Fforde books. She can travel in time and go inside books.
Where is the best place to read a book?
I don't like reading outside. You have to put up with wind, bright sunlight and/or rain, insects etc. My favourite place to read is in the lounge room when no one else is there, in a comfortable chair with my feet up and a cup of tea at my elbow.
What were you like at school?
I was a bit of a girly swot. I liked school and did reasonably well, though not brilliantly. My favourite subjects were English and Algebra.
What are your hobbies?
Do writers have hobbies? Writing used to be my hobby, now it's my job and it spreads into my 'free time'. I like reading (of course), watching movies and I dabble in family history. I knit a bit too.
Do you have any pets or kids?
One kid. Two pets. The kid is now 25 and is also a writer, so we have a lot in common. I have a young dog called Rita who is a ball freak and an old cat called Spud who prefers not to move.
What is your most treasured possession?
A large Chinese dragon statue that my husband bought me for my birthday a couple of years ago.
What book would you take to a deserted island?
It would have to be something I could read again and again without getting bored...probably Lord of the Rings.
Your words of wisdom to students completing the Premier’s Reading Challenge?
Read all the books that you think you'll enjoy, but maybe also pick one or two that you wouldn't normally read. You might surprise yourself.
