Proof of concept and trial
Beginning in 2004, the Department embarked on a research and development initiative to support a number of key strategies outlined in the Blueprint for Government Schools. The initiative aimed to produce a ‘proof of concept’ student-centric ICT system, called Students@Centre, to support online teaching and learning, curriculum delivery and knowledge management in Victorian government schools.
Students@Centre was developed to prove that the core ideas of online teaching and learning are workable and feasible, before going further. The objective was to determine viability, technical issues, functional requirements, and overall direction, as well as provide feedback for budgeting and other forms of commercial considerations and control
The University of Melbourne evaluated the implementation of the Students@Centre trial. The evaluation, although conducted over a short period of time, showed positive results in teachers' attitudes and use of the online environment.
