School Readiness
School readiness is a critical factor to the success of the Ultranet. The Department recognises and encourages the significant progress schools have made in improving ICT infrastructure and use of ICT in the classroom to improve teaching and learning.
50 Ultranet coaches are supporting schools to prepare for the Ultranet and build teachers’ capacity to effectively use ICT to improve student learning outcomes. Ultranet Coaches have been working closely with school leadership teams to strengthen eLearning practices, in readiness for the Ultranet.

Once implementation of the Ultranet commences in schools, the focus of the Ultranet Coach will shift. From 2010 they will provide training to key personnel in schools and provide ongoing support to school leaders and teachers to embed effective use of the Ultranet into their practice.

Using ICT effectively in the classroom to improve learning outcomes. This includes use of digital tools and resources. A school structure for in-house professional learning that links ICT professional learning with a focus on learning and teaching. |

Leadership Are principals and other school leaders ready to lead this change?
Effective leadership is critical for implementing change Ultranet Coaches may support and assist Principals in these areas as appropriate.

The Ultranet is seen as a vehicle for supporting achievement of a school’s existing goals and priorities. The annual implementation plan includes reference to eLearning planning / Ultranet implementation. Appropriate goals are included in the principal and teacher performance and development plans. |

Workforce Capability Are users confident and capable using ICT and integrating ICT to support teaching and learning? People who are confident users of ICT are more likely to embrace the Ultranet. Schools that support their staff to make ICT a part of their daily work will find it easier to implement the Ultranet

Using the e-Potential survey to collect data to understand the spread of ICT capability across all staff and use the data to inform ICT Professional learning support. Teachers can be encouraged to set ICT Professional Learning Goals. Implementing a school structure for in-house professional learning. ICT professional learning needs to have a three pronged focus – developing ICT skills, developing an understanding of how ICT supports improved teaching and learning and support for change. |

Infrastructure Is the ICT infrastructure in schools robust? If ICT is easy to use in a school, more people will use it. Appropriate access, minimum faults and good technical support will increase staff confidence and use of ICT.

Community Is the school community ready to receive the Ultranet?
A community that understands the benefits of the Ultranet will more easily accept the change.

The school community understands the benefits of the Ultranet and share/are aware of the schools vision. Schools need to consider if there will be any access issues for their school community and strategies to engage their community. |

Data/content Is data ready for the system?
Schools that are ready to implement the Ultranet will have their data in the correct form so that it is compatible with the Ultranet. |
Schools can cleanse their data according to the data conversion strategy (yet to be released). Routinely use data to facilitate school improvement. |
