Outside School Hours Care
Many Victorian Government Schools provide Outside School Hours Care as part of their education services.
Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) are services which offer a childcare environment for children between five and twelve years of age. These services include before-school care, after-school care and vacation care. Care may also be provided on schools’ pupil-free days.
Successful models of operation for Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) programs
In 2006, the Department of Education undertook research into identifying successful models of operation for Outside School Hours Care programs within government schools.
As a result of the research, an Outside School Hours Care brochure was produced. The brochure provides successful OSHC case studies, showcasing a range of strategies and experiences that have enabled government schools to meet the needs of their local community.
These case studies further support the Department’s Effective Schools model, which identifies the key attributes of an effective school by:
- meeting the need for a school to have a shared vision and goals that reflect the school community needs,
- providing students with a safe and stimulating learning environment, embracing diversity,
- working together to address school issues and supporting professional learning opportunities.
