Beginning a life in Australia

Beginning a Life in Australia booklets from the Australian Government Department of Immigration and Citizenship and contain information and advice for new migrants. Drug education

Accurate and factual information about the most common drugs is available in Engaging Parents in School Drug Education. The brochures also include information on:

The Department has developed resources for schools for management of head lice, including pro forma documents. A Consent form to conduct head lice inspections has been translated into the following languages:

It is Not OK to Be Away

It's Not OK to Be Away is a state-wide initiative building a school and community approach to the issue of student attendance. The initiative is designed to change community and student attitudes to school attendance.

Multilingual school notices

To support communication between the school and families from language backgrounds other than English, 23 school notices commonly requested for translation are available in 22 languages, including English, at Multilingual School Notices.

Information about VELS and ESL

A pamphlet, English as a second language (ESL) students and the Victorian Essential Learning Standards is available to assist parents to understand the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS), and in particular the ESL Companion to the VELS. It outlines how the VELS is structured and how the standards are used for reporting the learning progress of students. The pamphlets are available as pdf files, which can be printed and photocopied.

Parent complaints

The Department is committed to good communication and treating everyone with dignity and respect. The  parent complaints information has been developed to improve communication for us all when addressing concerns or making a complaint that is related to the school or your child’s education.

The student report card provides you with a clear picture of your child’s progress. Translations are available of the 2007 Student Report Cards.
