Interpreting and translating
Interpreting and translating services are available free, within guidelines, to government schools. The services ensure that parents and guardians who require an interpreter have access to school information, and are better able to communicate with schools.
This service is not available to assist individual students in classrooms, or support curriculum-related activities.
Accessing interpreting and translating services
- The information provided on this page will assist educators in accessing interpreting and translating services.
Schools with students and families from language backgrounds other than English need to ensure that information relating to school programs and student progress is made available to parents in their first language.
To facilitate this, the Department provides schools with access to qualified and accredited interpreters. This is in line with Victorian government policy to help Victorians from culturally and linguistically diverse communities deal with government departments and agencies. All schools have been provided with the guidelines and booking forms.
- On this page instructions are provided for users to access and use the multilingual school notices before downloading the language files.
Multilingual school notices support communication between the school and families from language backgrounds other than English. 23 school notices commonly requested for translation are available in 22 languages, including English.
Translated material for parents
- This page provides a directory of print materials translated into the most requested languages. This material provides information about school education in Victoria to parents whose first language is not English.
