Advice on this site and direction from the Victorian Schools Animal Ethics Committee ( VSAEC), is applicable to all Victorian government schools and those associated with the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria and the Association of Independent Schools of Victoria.
Developments in science and changes in community attitudes to the use of animals have led to revisions in legislation and the establishment of VSAEC in 2005. These measures provide a framework and guidance for the responsible use of animals in Victorian schools.
Animals in schools provide a rich learning experience for all students, but when we interact with animals, we have a responsibility to demonstrate appropriate care and respect. More broadly, we need to encourage sensitivity to the needs and requirements of all living organisms. This site details our responsibilities toward the animals in our care.
