Questions about specific data sets

5. Since all Prep to Year 2 students are assessed as part of the Assessment of Reading program, do I need to also assess these students against the CSF English Reading strand?

It is recommended that Prep to Year 2 students also be assessed against the VELS English Reading dimension and that this data be transmitted to the DEECD for incorporation in the SLR, however this is not mandatory.

6. Do I need to assess PSD (formally D&I) students against the VELS?

PSD students may be assessed and reported against the VELS, or they may be assessed against their own Individual Learning Plan. Schools with more than 10 PSD students who have not been assessed against the VELS should have completed the School Curriculum Survey (Special Settings). The total number of students in each progress category must also be entered into the SLR web-form (Principal's EduMail ID and password required).

7. How do I report the results of PSD students?

Where the number of PSD students who are deemed not capable of assessment against the VELS is fewer than 10 students, schools should include a summary in the annual report that discusses and interprets student progress. The format of the summary report is decided by the school. Where the number of students is greater than 10, the school should refer to the data in the SLR and provide appropriate analysis and interpretation of the results.

8. Where would I find more information on recording student absences?

Details on reporting student absences are provided in the document Guidelines to using CASES 21 student absence codes, which is stored in EduLibrary under the following path:
EduLibrary > Schools > CASES > CASES21 > Quickguide

9. What are the most important reports to look at on the VCE Data Service (VCEDS) when preparing my Annual Report or School Self Assessment?

The answer to this question can be found in the document VCEDS Aid for Accountability (PDF - 76Kb).

The following document explains the calculation used to derive the Staff sick leave figures reported in the School Level Report, see: Factsheet - How is Sick Leave in the School Level Report (SLR) calculated? (PDF - 71Kb)
