Annual Implementation Plan

As an element of the School Accountability and Improvement Framework, Annual Implementation Plans describe how the key improvement strategies in the school strategic plan and other significant projects will be put into operation in each of the four years of the strategic plan.

Annual implementation planning assists schools to:

  • plan and communicate their work for the coming year and how this will lead to achieving the goals and targets in the school strategic plan
  • ensure efficient and effective allocation of resources to complete the work
  • monitor progress and success.

Effective annual implementation plans comprise two parts:

  1. Strategic Intent including the goals, targets and key improvement strategies from the school strategic plan as well as one year targets
  2. Implementation details including a breakdown of the key improvement strategies and significant projects.

In breaking down key improvement strategies or significant projects, schools outline the actions underpinning the high-level strategy, and define who will undertake it, how it will be resourced, and when it will be delivered.  Achievement milestones are defined as changes in practice and behaviours that will occur if the strategies and actions have been implemented successfully.

One year targets represent small steps or increments towards achievement of the 4 year targets included in the school strategic plan.

All schools are required to submit an annual implementation plan to their regional network leader every year, including those developing a school strategic plan.

The final annual implementation plan must be endorsed by the school principal, the school council and the Regional Network Leader.

The school’s annual implementation plan informs the development of principal class and staff performance and development plans.
