Furniture and equipment

Funds are made available for furniture and equipment with each major capital works project. Schools are free to select the furniture most appropriate to the health and safety of their staff and students, the requirement or function of specialist areas, and overall space availability.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

The Department is the number one user of IT in Australia and among the worldwide leaders in the use and implementation of information and communication technologies (ICT). The State school system consists of over 1700 sites which are connected to a WAN (Wide Area Network), and each has its own LAN (Local Area Network). Furthermore, every school in is in the process of being upgraded to high-capacity broadband internet through the Government’s initiative, VicSmart.

Schools across Victoria are already integrating ICT into their curriculum in ways that allow them to increase student computer literacy, share knowledge and information creatively, and overcome barriers like isolation or disability.
