Levels of Provision Planning

Infrastructure planning occurs at individual school, regional and state-wide levels.

School-level planning

School-level planning is carried out by school councils. Individual schools undertake master-planning exercises based on proposals for the future development of their programs and associated facilities.

School improvement planning may identify a need for facilities to deliver new curriculum and teaching approaches as well as support learning pathways for students.

Regional planning

Regional planning includes all Government schools within any of the Department’s nine administrative regions. Regional planning provides long-term frameworks within which schools, the community and Government identify opportunities to improve programs and facilities in local neighbourhoods.

State-wide planning

State-wide infrastructure planning helps determine where schools are needed in population growth areas. It also identifies the investment required to upgrade existing school infrastructure. State-wide planning embraces local, regional, regional and state-wide services and asset condition, and informs funding decisions related to school maintenance, rebuilding, school replacement and new school construction. Planning is driven by a commitment to improving student outcomes.
