Infrastructure Planning

Planning is fundamental to managing the Department’s capital responsibilities. It drives all major investment in school facilities. Matching asset requirements to educational need results in modern facilities of relevant capacity and performance.

In determining where school buildings and services should be located, both now and in the future, a 'service' or 'provision' plan is generated for each local community. Plans consider:

  • population
  • current and future demand for places in schools
  • Government policy on school sizes and structures
  • local community and industry educational needs
  • opportunities to link schools with one another and to other community services and facilities.
