School Infrastructure

Futuristic space centre

School Infrastructure refers to the site, buildings, furniture and equipment that contribute to a learning environment.

The schools we design and build must:

  • promote effective learning and teaching
  • incorporate new technology
  • be environmentally sustainable
  • support community involvement.

The Department supports these learning environments through the:

  • provision of new and environmentally sustainable schools
  • upgrade and modernisation of existing facilities
  • ongoing maintenance and rationalisation of Departmental assets.

Capital works – management options

In line with the Victorian Government’s policy directions, schools can choose how involved they would like to be in their capital works projects.

Schools can choose whether they would like:

  1. the school to lead the project
  2. to work in partnership with the Department or
  3. the Department to lead the project.

The Hon. Martin Dixon MP, Minister for Education, discusses the three project management options, along with other elements of the capital works process.
