Awards and Recognition

The Department supports a range of regular and occasional awards that support best practice in the design of school facilities and infrastructure as well as the development of learning landscapes.

Awards encourage schools and designers to be more innovative and creative in facilities design, especially where ecologically sustainable options are concerned.

School Design Awards

Hosted by the Department of Education in conjunction with the Office of the Victorian Government Architect, the School Design Awards highlight innovative and sustainable architectural design practice. They are open to architects and designers who have designed a Victorian Government school building within the previous two-year period.

For more information, see School Design Awards.

CEFPI Architectural Awards

With the support and participating membership of the Department of Education, the Victorian Chapter of the Council of Educational and Facilities Planners International (CEFPI) conducts an annual awards competition.

These Awards are open to registered CEFPI members – whether planners, school principals, architectural and/or construction management firms – whose projects demonstrate an effectiveness in the planning, design and construction of educational facilities. The Awards are open to government, private and the Catholic school sectors.

Victorian Schools' Garden Awards

This popular program encourages students across Victoria to involve themselves in projects that enhance their creativity and environmental responsiveness, and demonstrate the reward of developing school grounds. Sponsored by the Department and managed by Nursery and Garden Industry Victoria (NGIV), the Schools’ Garden Awards are open to all Victorian schools.
