Dingo Bingo

Dingo Bingo, the basic sight word vocabulary game by the award winning author, Hunter Calder*, is a pleasant and highly motivational way of ensuring students reinforce the systematic development of these words.

The 240 words taught in Dingo Bingo make up approximately two-thirds of the vocabulary in infant level books, and more than half of all adult reading material.

There are ten lists of words and students must be proficient in one list before progressing to the next. The program monitors word accuracy, time taken per game, and error rate. Problem words are listed after each game, and can be printed out for further practice and revision away from the computer.

There are three achievement awards (bronze, silver and gold medal accuracy) with printable certificates that recognise and encourage student effort. The accuracy rate (percentage %) is adjustable to meet the learning needs for each individual student.

Dingo Bingo is a proven method of increasing a student’s knowledge of basic sight words. Instant recognition of sight vocabulary gives students more time to concentrate on words that are difficult for them. Dingo Bingo is an essential component of the literacy skills taught in the Reading Freedom series.

Angus Adventures

Angus McIntyre is your typical Australian 12 year old. He hates teachers, school, and parents who make him do things he doesn’t want to do. Angus lives on a cattle property in New South Wales and goes to boarding school in Sydney.

In 'The Great Australian Ghost Story', Angus finds himself in England on a summer vacation that he wants no part of. You’ll laugh at his look on life as he describes the miserable experience of sight-seeing with his parents through a rain soaked country, and how unfair it is that he’s not lying on an Aussie beach with his friends. Until, that is, he finds himself scared to death by a headless ghost in a suit of armour, roaming the halls of a genuine English castle!

Like any good stories,'The Adventures of Angus McIntyre' programs are meant to be enjoyed. However, they can also be used as an integral teaching resource in the classroom or at home. Students can first enjoy Angus’s escapades, and then go on to test their comprehension skills, as well as add to their word knowledge and vocabulary development, with the self-contained exercise sets at the end of each chapter.

As well as being challenged, students are also motivated to achieve, and in doing so go on to play a number of stimulating bonus games, while also earning printable achievement certificates.

Although "The Great Australian Ghost Story" can be read within the program as an E-Book, a paperback edition has been published for reading enjoyment away from the computer. (The learning activities are not included in the book.)

English Factory is a comprehensive program covering 36 English grammar topics for all students. The exercises are fully interactive, with sets of 10 questions for each exercise drawn at random. No two question sets are the same!

Maths Island 1

Developed for home or school use, Maths Island 1 is an effective maths software program that teaches students the essential skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division - the foundation that students must have when mastering other areas of mathematics - using colourful graphics, interesting characters, subtle animation and fully narrated, interactive tutorials. It is also based on the Australian curriculum.

Students start the program by completing a diagnostic test in the essential skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. They are then directed by the program to the specific areas that require careful and systematic instruction.

The basic principle of the diagnostic test is to locate the area or areas where students experience difficulty and then start them where they are comfortably competent. This enables the student to develop the confidence to go on to learn the skills that follow after experiencing initial success.

Students who require instruction with a particular skill have access to a comprehensive learning module. This module comprises interactive learning segments and tutorials with full voiceover, making the learning of new skills easy to follow.

Students are encouraged to begin and end their practical activities with simple warm-up and cool-down challenges. This makes the learning process more interesting while focusing the student's thinking on the task at hand.

Performance is continually monitored by the program, and students are given positive guidance depending on their level of achievement. A student cannot progress from one level to the next without attaining the required level of achievement. Initially preset by the program, the level of achievement and number of questions asked can be changed in the administration module.

Printable certificates are awarded at key milestones, and a point scoring system is used to promote self-advancement. Students can also access a complete record of their results, which is also printable.

Reading Works

A fully interactive program designed to help average to high IQ, low reading ability students to achieve and see that reading really can “work” for them. It is also an excellent resource for all students who are developing their reading acquisition skills.

The five levels of the program are carefully structured according to reading and interest age. For example, Level 3 is based on a reading age of 6 - 10 years and interest age 10 - 12 years.

There are 560 graded passages divided into 8 categories, such as Discovery and Mystery. Each passage has a controlled number of words and reading-ability grading.

Placement exercises assess the student’s reading ability, automatically guiding them to the most appropriate starting point within the program.

The program includes pre reading “eye warm-ups”, high frequency flash card drill and reading comprehension. All results are measured, timed and recorded, including reading speed and unfamiliar word access.

The program design allows students to progress at their own rate and see they are achieving. It also tracks performance and enables progress through the program based on reading results.

Word Wizard
