Software for DEECD Schools, Agencies and Business Offices

The Department’s agreements with Microsoft cover existing licenses, new version rights for these licenses and new licenses as detailed in this section.

Installation media for all of the above products are available from the Department's appointed Microsoft Large Account Reseller 

Server Products

Includes deployment of both 32-bit and 64-bit software where available:

  • Windows Server Standard Edition (WIN) – Windows Server Pool
  • Exchange Server Standard Edition – Server Application Pool
  • SQL Server Standard Edition (SQL) – Server Application Pool
  • System Management Server (SMS) – Server Application Pool
  • Internet Security and Acceleration Server (ISA 2004, ISA 2006) – Server Application Pool.

Desktop Products

  • Microsoft Office Enterprise Edition (Windows) - includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Publisher, InfoPath, Groove, Communicator and One Note.
  • Office Mac 2008 (Apple) - includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Entourage and Virtual PC.
  • Visio - standard edition. The agreements cover 7,242 installations of Visio. Once these have been exhausted, schools will need to purchase their own licenses for this product.
  • Project - standard edition. The agreements cover 1600 installations of Project. Once these have been exhausted, schools will need to purchase their own licenses for this product.
  • Expression Web (previously FrontPage). The agreements cover 12,330 installations of Expression Web (previously FrontPage). Once these have been exhausted, schools will need to purchase their own licenses for this product.
  • Student with Encarta Premium - contains Encyclopaedia, Graphing Calculator, Web Companion, Project Starters, and On-line maths homework help (can only be installed on DEECD owned computers only, not available for student owned computers).
  • Learning Essentials for Teachers - includes introduction to Office, information on Microsoft Innovation Teachers Program, templates for charts and diagrams, lesson plans and assignment, assessment and grading, administrative tasks and professional development website links.
  • Learning Essentials for Students - includes templates for presentations, essays & reports, charting & diagrams, research & braining storming, creative projects, foreign languages, mathematics & science, organisational tools and  useful website links.
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2005
    included in Subscription to MSDN - for Department secondary schools ONLY. See: Academic Alliance for High Schools (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-au/academic/bb250618.aspx).
  • Microsoft Office Computer Based Training - Basic and Advanced eLearning.
  • Microsoft Photo Story, Producer, Movie Maker, Media Player, Media Encoder.
  • Windows Operating System - upgrades only. These include deployment of both 32-bit and 64-bit where available:
    • Windows VISTA (Enterprise and Ultimate)
    • Windows XP Pro upgrade
    • Windows 2000 Professional upgrade
    • Windows 98 upgrade
    • Windows 95 upgrade
    • Windows XP Home upgrade

VISTA Ultimate is not available under a Volume License Key (VLK). It is the Department’s expectation that schools will deploy this product for multimedia purposes only as required. Schools that wish to install this product will need to request an activation key which can be used once only for each installation (activation keys are available from the Department’s Microsoft Supplier) https://shop.insight.com/shop/default1.asp. Vista Ultimate is not recommended for installation on administration hardware.

Windows CORE Client Access Licences (CALs)

The Department’s agreements cover access to Microsoft Servers with Standard (Base) CALs.

  • Windows CORE CALs (includes Windows (WIN) server Standard CAL, Exchange Server (EXC) Standard CAL, System Management Server (SMS) Standard CAL, Sharepoint Server Standard CAL).
  • Terminal Services (TS) CAL
  • SQL Server Standard CAL
  • Office Communication Server (OCS) Standard CAL.

Enterprise CALs (eCALs, also known as Additive CALs) are not included in the agreement. These entitle the use of additional client functionality available on server products. Further information is available on the Microsoft’s Licensing Brief (Base and Additive Client Access Licenses: An Explanation). 

Software for the Teachers and Principals Notebook Program

The following software is pre-installed on the notebooks supplied under the Department’s Teachers Principals Notebook Program:

  • Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 Edition
  • Upgraded Operating System.

No other Microsoft software can be installed unless a license has been purchased.

Software Licensing and Copyright Policies

All software must be used in accordance with the Copyright Act 1968 and the Department's Software - Licensing and Copyright Policy and the  Microsoft User Rights Policy (http://www.microsoftvolumelicensing.com/userights/default.aspx).
