How was the eligibility of schools determined for each funding round?

For the purpose of the NSSCF, the Commonwealth utilised 2007 student census data and undertook an audit of ICT in schools in February 2008. This process enabled schools to be identified and targeted in accordance with DER priorities. Rounds 1, 2 and 2.1 of the NSSCF program aimed to improve the computer-to-student ratio for Year 9 to 12 students to 1:2.

The Commonwealth Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) stated that no alterations to student data were acceptable (except in the case of new schools and schools with a new Year 9, 10, 11 or 12 level in 2008). DEEWR also advised that ICT data collected in the Preliminary Survey would not be amended unless a business case could be developed by education authorities that provided evidence that the February 2008 audit data was incorrect.

Will there be further rounds and what will their criteria be?

Further funding will be provided under the NSSCF to assist schools in moving to a 1:1 computer-to-student ratio for Years 9 to 12 by the end of 2011. The process by which these funds will be distributed is still to be determined by DEECD. DEECD will advise schools of the nature and timing of future NSSCF funding in due course.

Are special schools eligible for funding under the NSSCF?

Special schools with an enrolment of students in Years 9 to 12 are eligible for funding through the NSSCF. For Round 2 and supplementary Round 2.1 the Commonwealth developed FAQs for schools with enrolled disability students, along with specific guidelines on how to apply for equipment other than computers.

These FAQs and guidelines can be found on the Commonwealth’s DER website at www.digitaleducationrevolution.gov.au

Is there any intention that primary schools will receive money for computers?

The Commonwealth Government has not made any commitment of computers to schools other than for students in Years 9 to 12.

State ICT funding is available and distributed quarterly to all Victorian government schools through the Student Resource Package.

Primary schools also receive additional funding as part of the Victorian Schools Plan $28 million ICT funding commitment (over four years) to increase access to computers in schools.
